Janvier Soldat And The ShufflePod Meme

Now the Nut has been putting up memes for the last couple of weeks which provide good fillers should Janvier run of out something to blog about. Fact is, it's not that he's coming up empty on stuff to write, it's just that the time he spends in front of his PC is now relegated to time spent in front of the telly watching DVDs.

It's no secret that Janvier had bitten the forbidden fruit long ago, and it has consumed his soul ever since. It's not been easy for the Chief to be around Janvier at times since they will inadvertedly end up looking at Apple stuff, but the Chief thank the stars that Janvier has not started acting like one of the staff in the iPhone/iPod Guided Tour videos.

Nevertheless, Janvier read the memes and the one about having his iPod play songs at random to answer questions (there's been a variant of this about online already, yes?) tickled his fancy. See, initially he had this idea where he'd use the Comic Touch app and answer every question for the meme in a photo. Like for the first question.

Of course, while Comic Touch allows Janvier to make quick and easy comics using photos he already has, the number of questions and finding appropriate photos to use for each question makes this not worth the effort, and so he'll just stick to shuffling songs on his iPod to answer the meme.

So, the rules:

1. Put your iPod on shuffle.
2. Press forward for each question.
3. Use the song title as the answer to the question.

What does the next year have in store for you?

No Need To Argue, by The Cranberries. Janvier likes this answer, as he is naturally a peaceful innocent angel and does not like conflict and will live happily ever after. The photo above says it all.

What does your love life look like next year?
Bye Bye Bye, by N'SYNC. This should mean that Janvier and the Chief are saying goodbye to arguments!

What do you say when life deals you a bad hand?

Dirt Lands Theme, from Heroes Of Might & Magic IV Soundtrack. Possibly Janvier is meant to take a trip to the countryside in Ireland or the highlands and take it easy. Or survive on dirt.

Song that reminds you of good times?
The Dream Of Olwen, by Richard Clayderman. Spooky, because if Janvier met someone he knew who he'd thought had passed away, he might be reminded of good times he'd had with said person. If there were any, of course. Then he can go get freaked out.

What do you think when you get up in the morning?
Tangled, by Maroon 5. How very true! Janvier wakes up most morning tangled up between his two pillows, two bolsters, iKea knee prop and his quilt. Thus waking up feeling all aching and liable to just continue hitting the snooze button while he untangles himself.

What song will you dance to at your wedding?

Leto Atreides II, from Children Of Dune soundtrack. Not really what Janvier would expect to dance to, knowing that Canon In D would feature heavily if he had any say. But this piece is nice. Think flamenco!

Your favourite saying?
Welcome To My Life, by Simple Plan. You won't hear Janvier say this in a tired, defeated tone, or in an ironic manner, in fact you won't hear Janvier say this at all actually.

Favourite place?
The Contest, from Sweeney Todd soundtrack. Well it's true that Janvier has a morbid interest sometimes, but it would take some rather serious levels of boredom for him to go all the way to a marketplace to watch a contest between two barbers.

What song describes your best friend?
Servant To The Slave, by Capercaillie, from Celtic Circle II. How very odd. While Janvier can say that his friends can be obliging, he doesn't think any one of them are welcome mats to be taken advantage of, really!

What song describes your ex?
Harkonnen Force, by David Arkenstone, from Emperor: Battle For Dune soundtrack. Whoa. Ruthless? Janvier's thankful he doesn't have an ex then!

What song describes yourself?

Kiss, by Artist Formerly Known As Prince. Now this one Janvier felt was better described in a photo.

Where will you be in 10 years?
Canon in D, by Pachelbel. Not sure. Does this mean that our life would be like a canon, each year while have some echo of the year before repeating?

Your love life right now?

Super Mario Sunshine, Mario Scat Version, by The Big Band Of Rogues. Chirpy a capella and bright sunshine!

How will you die?

Flight To The Ford, from The Lord Of The Rings: The Fellowship Of The Rings soundtrack. Janvier loves all the tracks that feature the Nazgul lietmotif! And listen to that! Grand right the bit before they start singing (sounds like our death is a very dramatic moment!)? But will this mean that we die at Weathertop before Aragon saves us? Or that the river will not drown our enemies?

Picture Profile

Just as we're about to do this when we got stumped. See, we'd gotten tagged by Yin2 via Facebook and so we thought this meme was for the Facebook profile pic. And just as we're beginning to do this we wondered if it could mean the profile pic for Blogger.

So we decided to use our Facebook profile pic.

Oh. First, the rules:

1. Post your profile pic.
2. Tell us a story behind it.
3. Why do you choose that pic?
4. Tag 5 more bloggers!

Right. The Facebook profile pic. Here's the original pic, taken during our trip to Sporeland a couple of years back where we decided to meet up with psike while he was working there. Regardless of what people may have thought about two flers camwhoring in coats, hilarious tho' that misunderstanding may have been, the resulting photos made sure it wasn't all for nothing.

Then there's this application for the iPod Touch called Comic Touch, which is a nifty little program that does text boxes and speech bubbles like a comic strip, and it is only now after a year plus when we first noticed the app that we found a free Lite version to play with.

And so the profile pic was a result of playing about.

Why that pic? Because that is us? Although we must say we like what Froggie chose for us as a picture link too, although that one is much to risky for innocent us to post up. Heh.

Who shall we tag? Oh goodness. With the League of Anonymous Bloggers around it's not easy looking for profile pictures to elicit a story, but we'll try...dammit, a bit susah since we've a rough idea behind the story of a number of the profile pics...

Deeperanddeeper!
Jase!
Fable Frog!
Booker!
NJAPF!

OK a quick story about our Blogger profile picture - we were in the pharmacy office, got ourself a disposable mask, cut out a photo of large lips from a magazine, and tried it on for size. Didn't dare serve customers while wearing said mask in the end.

Dear Alex,

Our Debut Album

OK. For the last few months our desktop monitor has been on the near fritz. We're not sure if it was the monitor itself, the cable, or whatnot, but in order to get the monitor showing a steady screen rather than horizontal lines running vertically and/or static we'd to be rather gentle, stroking the monitor here, nudging it slightly there, holding it steady with one hand...

Bloody troublesome.

And since we blog in the wee hours of the night, and we'd watermark out pictures before posting them up (Photoshop is only installed on our desktop, see), we slowed down blogging. Ain't good because there'd be stuff we'll not blog down and forget in the future. After all this is where we store our memories, haha.

Anyways there was this meme going on out there and it seems something to fill here up while we get a new monitor fixed up soon.

First up, let's cut-paste the rules.

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN ALBUM!

1 - Open http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random.
The first random wikipedia article you get is the name of your band (alternatively, if the first article you hit is short, hit Random Article two more times).

2 - Open http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3.
The last four or five words of the very last quote of the page is the title of your first album.

3 - Open http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days.
Third picture, no matter what it is, will be your album cover.

4 - Use photoshop/paint or similar to put it all together.

5 - For tracklisting, repeat (2) by refreshing 10 times.

So here we go, after some editing with Picasa!

By the looks of it we belong in the Alternative genre. Still, while it's an interesting way to make album art and all, we're not gonna use this for our own personalized album art, haha. We think we'd be camwhoring for ours, when we get to it, heh.

Fabulous Findings

Fabulous blogs and addictions. Must say that we were flattered to be tagged as a fabulous blog, especially since when we last did a search on 'niche blog' we were sad to find so many hits on how to set up a blog to earn money without leaving your house. It's sad because we use niche here to mean special (read: weird) and not as some 'speciality market for earning moolah in what sounds like a get-rich-quick scheme'.

Anyways, we've been tagged as fabulous and now have to list down 5 addictions. Well actual addictions where there's withdrawal symptoms and the likes, maybe not so drastic as it would be chemical addiction. And we decide to take a slightly different tack on addiction.

We'll list down 5 addictions we have that would likely cause the Chief to raise hands to the sky and demand, "Why? What have I done to deserve this?" You know how - a person's hands held out in supplication and begging the sky to explain why grieviences and misery befell said person. And well, not really addictions but maybe obssessions.

We can visit iKea repeatedly even when we have nothing specific in mind to buy and we've just been there two days back.
The Chief doesn't follow us for all our excursions, much to the Chief's relief. Right now our trips there are simply to get some small item, be it minor storage/organizing materials for the office, or christmas wrappings, or even just to browse and rebrowse. When we get our Friends Card, then the damage will begin.

We can browse nonstop at Machines or the Mac Store.
Even when we know it's still not...feasible to just buy a Mac. Browse the iPod casings. Browse the Macs. Sigh ever-so-slightly comparing the new iPod Touch to our 1st-Gen iPod Touch. Checking prices. Then do it all again on our next visit to a shopping mall with a large Mac reseller store.

We needs to read a bit, play a bit on our Nintendo DS, play a bit on our PC, and synchronize our iPods every night.
Which means bedtime don't come early. And so the woes that we don't get enough sleep.

We enjoy our retail therapy too darn much.
To which the Chief has resolved to not-so-subtle hints of saving money by telling us directly, yes, our credit limit is still good and we can afford 5 iPhones with no problem, hmmm also how many cards do we still have ya?

We enjoy our drinks.
A lot. Caffeine. Alcohol. Sugared drinks. Mainly our drinks are anything save plain water. To the horror of the health-conscious Chief.

And so we've to tag five other fabulous blogs. Or so we think based on how we got this meme. And so we pass this on to:
Nut. Read the blog, then read the comments which is totally something else.
Joery. Tongue as sharp as a tattoo needle - you won't be hit once but multiple times.
Wingedman. We'd a good share of laughs here, as close as Jay's blog.
Jason. His descriptions tickles us (Bertha and Melvin in Bottom Top, the Thai masseur 'biting his chest').
Medie007. Now with more photos!

The Right Now Meme

The Nut returns serves us today with a meme! We actually still do wonder just how we got on the RPMNut train in the first place...it's actually part of our 10am routine already. It's like our morning caffeine.

Anyways, onwards with the meme. Interestingly, for a meme that demands spontaneous response, we actually have to do a bit before we can answer some of the Qs.

(1) Right now, what's at the top of your "top 25" list on iTunes?
'Kyrie' from the Death Note Soundtrack, with a play count of 241. Of course, this is because it's on the laptop which doesn't have all our songs. And we're not sure - does the Top 25 on iTunes differ from the Top 25 on the iPods?

(2) Right now, what's the first thing on your "to do" list for today?
Finishing up an ambigram. Then going on with another ambigram...argh.

(3) Right now, what are you thinking about having for your next meal?
OK, this one's a bit of a poser because we'll be rushing to pick the Chief up afterwards, head home to get the chores done and then we'll only have a narrow time frame for dinner before our 7.45pm movie. Somewhere in 1U is what we're thinking of.

(4) Right now, what other applications are running on your PC as you do this meme?
IE7 to keep a tab on GMail and Scrabulous and the blogs.
MS Outlook, and thankfully mail influx there is slow.
iTunes because we needed to see what's at the top of our Top 25.
AVG's busy running its daily virus scan in the background, making everything else. So. Bloody. Slow.

(5) Right now, name 5 people you think will respond to this Meme if you tagged them?
Paul.
Sam.
QR.
Junior.
Alex.

Bookline Meme

Right. Since we've pics to rename and upload and such to do first, we'll write up on Camlands later. Needless to say Camlands was great! :)

So in the meantime, we'll do up this meme, tagged by both QR and Little Dove. Of course, since we're sorta surrounded by books and am not holding one at the moment, they're all technically equally 'nearest'.

Damn. Most of our books need to be wrapped. :S

On with the meme!

Pick up the nearest book (with at least 123 pages).
Turn to page 123.
Find the 5th sentence.
Post the 5th sentence.
Tag 5 people.

So. Nearest book is Moving Pictures, by Terry Pratchett.

' "I'm an old man and I demand someone tell me what's-" '

Right.

We hereby pass this meme on to the following:
NJAPF (please don't use a Ladybird book :P)
Shuku
Drownedglass
Alex (don't worry no need to be fiction book)
RPMNut (altho' we thinks there's gonna be more than just a short meme post on his blog...)

Blogosphere's Unknown Bachelors / Bachelorettes!

Because it's there to be done. And let's be thickskinned a bit for this one shall we not. :P

BACHELOR NO: 3

Name
Janvier Soldat

Occupation
Paper Pusher

Age
27

Zodiac
Aquarius

Fave Hangout
Bookstores, Mage Cafe, Starbucks and any Wifi spot

Talent
We major in the capability to go to bed at 5am when the weekend arrives; and minor in scribbling illegible ambigrams.

Three Things You Can't Live Without
Our iPod for one - we always have our music with us. Also, books - whatever we're reading at the moment. Interestingly whenever we're fielded with the question of getting married by ex-colleagues and such we always said we're married already and points to either book or iPod. The third, our PC, a source of entertainment.

What Is The Sweetest Thing A Girl / Guy Has Ever Done For You?

'Nuff said. Was when we were out of the room. And when we came in we never noticed the spread until the Chief asked us if we were really that blind without spectacles, as we actually sat on the bed beside the entire thing without noticing it. So malu.

The Most Daredevil Thing I've Ever Done Is...
Sit on balcony railings. In college, and on the university rooftop when the student lounge and food court used to be there.

What's One Thing You're Glad You've Outgrown?
Crayons. Introduced in Pendidikan Seni, crayons don't draw well and has been banished to being used for when we had to do batik homework.

Your Biggest Mistake Is...
Getting into a sales job.

Which Actor Would Play You In A Movie About Your Life?
Johnny Depp. Jack Sparrow without the pirate togs?

Why Do Women / Men...
Hmmm. Why do they allow their children to dress up like lalas and hang about places like Sungei Wang or Berjaya Times Square? Are the lalas to KL like what Goths are to Glasgow?

If You Were A Product, How Would Your Advertising Campaign Read?

Strictly Meme

Woo. A meme. Also going around like crazy judging how many people have been at it (but interestingly one without any theme). So, just to get our bit done, here we go.

Which feature do you zoom in on when you meet a guy for the first time?
Face. Need to look for some recognizable feature to latch on in case we bump into him again next time and we're left thinking, "Oshit, who is he and where did we meet him before?"

Who is your role model?
Don't have any. Being ourselves is good! :)

What's the healthiest thing you would eat among sushi, salad and sandwich?
We're not too sure what this question wants...whether to choose between the three (salad being the healthiest for us) or to name the healthiest we would have in each of the three (salmon sashimi, fruit salad, banana sandwich)...

Which movie you can watch again and again?
Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings!

Three gadgets that you can't live without?
Handphone (which varies), music player (currently iPod), and an entertainment system (oh Wii!).

What is your most annoying habit?
Not too sure on this - we think it differs according to different people. But you could say that we don't usually initiate conversation on instant messengers regardless of whether we're free or busy.

What's one thing you're glad you've outgrown?
We're a nostalgic soul. But we have outgrown crayons!

We get nervous when...
We have to give a speech or presentation that we have no idea how to bullshit our way through.

Our biggest fear is...
Boredom. The sienness where you really feel like doing nothing at all, even don't feel like sleeping.

The best thing we've done for ourselves is...
Taking the plunge out from being a singleton to being with the Chief. :P

Right. We don't have to forward this anymore, it's been making it's way on it's own accord (and some whom we may actually consider forwarding this to don't like to do memes) so this stops here.

Gadgets And Gizmos

Oh we'll admit our love for the electronic stuff. They're one source of entertainment, a mobile sort to boot. It's just so unfortunate that gadgets don't tend to come cheap, so we normally hold back until impulse-buy takes over (yes well we all have our vices).

Now we likes our gadgets to have specific roles. This is our mobile, it's for calls and texts. This is our music player. This is our Nintendo DS, for mobile gaming. This is our camera. Of course nowadays it's the trend for gadgets to have their functions overlap which is good as one's not expected to bring all his gadgets around a la Dilbert.

But we have problems with the idea of an all-in-one gadget so far (mainly it's a phone/PDA with other functions). Battery where can tahan? Games-wise can't compare with the DS/PSP. Camera-wise nowadays phonecams are going 3mpx and better, although night shots may still be iffy and macros are out of the question. Music? Mobiles double up as music players quite well except we hate the fact that they require specific earphones so you can't simply use any kind of earphones you like. And so far nothing will beat iPod Touch's websurfing save bringing an actual laptop around.

We're just waiting for the day the Minority Report Glove actually becomes an affordable reality in our lifetime and while we are still young at heart enough to enjoy it.

You put your right hand in, you put your right hand out, you put your right hand in, and you shake it all about...

Ok, enough of that and on with the meme.

What's the latest gadget you bought?
Our Nokia L'amour this year. And it has to last at least two years. Not unless Maxis decides to make like Vodafone and come up with yearly contracts and the offer for a phone upgrade.

What's the first gadget you owned?
Hmmm. Our Micro Genius! :P Oh good ol' days of Super Mario 3 and Double Dragon II...long gone already it is. If consoles aren't allowed then it's the Gameboy our cousin gave us. Walkmans technically belonged to our parents and not us so we can't say we owned it.

What's the most expensive gadget you owned?
We thinks it is our Nok7710, at 400 quid. Still serving us well!

What's the gadget you want to buy next?
Wii aren't too sure about that yet. :P Don't get your hopes up.

Do you follow the updates of the latest gadgets in the market?
Not unless Wii're planning on buying the gadget, then we look up everywhere, hound a few shops, ask questions which we have a rough idea of the answer already...mull mull mull.

What brand do you trust for handphone, camera, computer?
Handphone:
Nokia!
Camera: Canon!
Computer: Apple! But not like we own one.

Yet asides from our mobiles, the most-used gadget we own (asides from our PC, which we don't really categorize as a gadget) happens to be our trusty iPod Video 30GB. Hangs from a belt loop and travels with us most of the time. Just got a note from Apple telling us the hardware service coverage is coming to an end (not like we ever did send it for any sort), sigh. We'll be keeping an eye now on battery life.

'Course, the iPod effectively replaced all our other music players...now resting in the 'Gadget Drawer' along the cables and chargers. Oh dear. And we're too attached to our belongings to think about getting rid of them.

Busybodyfying Meme

We near forgot all about this meme. After the last spate of memes we needed a break from memes but now there's more memes coming in and we aren't keen on a backlog of memes to clear. Annnieeewaaaysss...the sampat meme.

1. Name one person who made you laugh last night?
Erm, Kate Monster! Singing 'Mix Tape'!

Sometimes when someone
Has a crush on you
They'll make you a mix tape
To give you a clue.
Let's see...
"You've Got A Friend"

"That's What Friends Are For"

Shit!
Oh, but look!

"A Whole New World"
"Kiss The Girl"
"My Cherie Amour"

Oh, Princeton! He does like me!

"I Am The Walrus"

Because the fingers wanted to exercise this way.

38. Tag 5 people who would do this survey.
Them who would, already have. But all are welcome to use do it!

Meme Or Spam?

Right. Almost forgot that there was this meme to do. 'Tis weird really - we never saw so many memes before, and recently there's been a whole slate of them.

We use to remember receiving on or two of these via email last time (blogs either never existed or weren't made user-friendly for the webpage design-illiterate folk), those weren't called memes then and might have been treated a bit more like spam mail tho' - after all, seeing a 'complete this and send it to etc etc etc' tends to light up an immediate 'DELETE' sign in our head.

Anyways. This kinda memes for blogs aren't as bad. And it does give direction for writing. Shortcut, in the case for this post. :P

So anyways, for this meme...are we suppose to state preference, or what we happen to use/eat/watch/go more often? Shall state preference then.

Tissue or Handkerchief?
Tissues, and plenty of them when our sinus hits. Our 'kerchief is mainly decorative.

Shoes or Sneakers?
No Crocs? Sneakers for their comfort. And to Jam/Combat in.

Collar Shirt or T-Shirt?
Tees since we don't attend many things that require dressing up.

Briefs or Boxers?
Not used to boxers.

Pants or Khakis?
Khakis are quite comfy! Pants we only ever wear for work and weddings!

Fast Food or Restaurant/Kopitiam?
Depends on mood. But restaurants or kopitiams because the food cravings usually come from there. Like for char kuey teow. Or bah kut teh. Or baked salmon. Or speghetti. Or wild boar ribs. Or steak. Or cendol with lots and lots of gula melaka. Or curry laksa, beehoon only. Or ikan bilis/anchovies. Or portobello mushrooms. Or mashed potatoes with bacon strips. Or kung po chicken. Or Guiness Pork. Or stingray.

Oh, the list.

Horror or Fantasy Movie?
Fantasy's so much more safer compared to the horror flicks we ever get - the chance that the show will suck is definitely less. But we love both genres.

Genki Sushi or Sushi King?
Genki Sushi.

Pavilion or The Gardens MidValley?
Gardens MidValley is nearer, and is connected to MidValley. And our last visit to Pavilion we were surprised to find out that the restrooms were clogged and we'd to go all the way to the top floor just to use a cubicle, which can't live up to T
he Gardens' restrooms. Speaking of toilets, we find ourselves disappointed with the Premier Restrooms at The Gardens - RM5 for the use of towels, Origins range of toiletries, the newfangled hand dryer and 2 cleaners/attendants (one male, one female). Other than that, the restroom's pretty much the same as those on the other floors.

No, we didn't use the attendants. In any way.

Still, could have been nicer, larger, airier...ya ya a restroom akin to a lobby!

Now that that's done with. Don't think we will tag anyone with this, but feel free to do it whenever you lack direction to post.

Finish Meme!

Oh no - a categoriless meme! But that means we can title it anyway we like! Waitaminute, we've been doing that for most of the previous memes already. Oh well, heck with that then. Onwards to the end. And to challenge ourselves - it shall all be answered in 5 words or less.

1. We've come to realise our last kiss was with a beer bottle.

2. We are listening to Britney Spear's 'Gimme More' repeatedly.

3. We talk in the collective as well.

4. We love being able to sleep in.

5. Our best friends are Friday Night Alcoholics.

6. Our car is ten years old now.

7. Our love life is materialistic.

8. We hate it when people ask us to a MLM thing.

9. Love is different for different people.

10. Marriage is our relationship with our books.

11. Somewhere, someone is thinking about sex. Every nine seconds.

12. We're always unpunctual. Unless someone else fetches.

13. We have a secret cheesy crush on iPod. iPhone. iMac. Yes, cheesy.

14. Our cell phone has a Sesame Street wallpaper.

15. When we wake up in the morning we snooze an hour more.

16. When we go to bed at night it's waaaaay past midnight.

17. Right now we're thinking about our supper in the kitchen.

18. Babies are not in our mind.

19. We get on MySpace to learn what is MySpace.

20. Today we ate dinner together with parents.

21. Tonight we will sleep a bit earlier.

22. Tomorrow we will swap from green tea to coffee.

23. We really want to watch videos on our iPod.

24. Someone that will most likely repost this is somebody tagged elsewhere!

This Is Our Day

Who approaches the Bridge of Death
Must answer me
These questions three!
Ere the other side he see...

When Is Your Birthday?
Generally celebrated on the third weekend en Janvier.

How Old Are You Now?
Just over mid-twenties.

Where Were You Born?
Klang. The only Klangborn of the family.

When Did You First Celebrate Your Birthday?
Like we can remember? We remembers one sometime while in primary school, having friends over in the afternoon with cake, food and all with the Super Mario Bros 3 as entertainment. We think we threw up on that party too, for reasons unknown.

When Will Your Next Birthday Be?
On our next birthday lor. Next year. Oh gawds another year's coming to a close.

Do You Remember Getting Birthday Presents On Your Birthday?
We do! From our younger years which saw us getting 'An American Tail' from mum; 'How To Win At Nintendo Games 3' book from dad; to a Sony Network Walkman NW-MS9 from sis during our early years in uni; the PS2, the Sonic Gear iPod speakers and the Unseen University Cut-Out Book from the guys and gals here.

What Are The Three Things You Want For Your Upcoming Birthday?
Bleargh we never really liked being asked this question - we never have a ready answer. :D If we'd a list of things that we may want it would either be affordable enough for us to buy it ourselves during one of our impulse buys, or out of everyone's (including ours) decent budget range.

But since the meme calls for three things, we might as well put the unattainable. This way we know no one will show up with it, heh.

HP Pavilion tx1215AU Entertainment Notebook

Well yes the specifications may be a bit outdated (don't they always, and so fast?) but the thing about this lappie is that it's capable of turning into a tablet. Touch screen! That's an in-built WACOM tablet then! Friend ymlau did point out that the screen's only 12.1", which is...yes, well, a tad small. Oh! Yet another plus point is that it's not so heavy, weighing some 2kgs (frail us cannot carry heavy stuff without tiring out soon).

A Volkswagon Golf GT Sport

Because it's cute. We remembers talking to Lemon once, and he asked what kinda car we like. We told him a Citroën, we thinks it was the C4 Picasso. He asked us why and we said, "Because it had a LED dashboard rather than dials for the speedometer/odometer". Then we both had a good laugh at our buta kereta-ness. Well we should be thinking of a new car anyways.

Our own house in TTDI
Yes well at the risk of staying near the parents, though. We loves TTDI. Shall not pass mum the key because we will not be able to stand her cleaning up our house as well. It's one thing for her to currently bug us regarding the state of messiness in our room, but totally another if it was our very own birthday-given (yeah we can dream) house.

What Kind Of Presents Do You Want For Your Birthday?
What's the point of this question when you have the above question you tell us?
We're a minor gadget whore, but only when it grabs our attention.
We're a bibiophile/lexicovore, but we've scarce space to store much books.
We're a soundaholic, but only when we find it catchy.
We're an avid gamer, but only for certain stuff that gets us all excited.
Erm. We're just afraid of getting bored lah.

Who Would You Like To Celebrate Your Birthday With?
Let's see. During our year in Glasgow, ymlau and everyone else refused to let us lock ourselves in our room and because all enfants du Janvier were celebrating together in JBC.
Then, lad tells us to be antisocial some other time than when we're supposed to celebrate our birthday.
Seems like we're not allowed to do this (we're not making fun of that ya please don't get offended!).
Then again, why should we? We want to celebrate with all of you!

How Do You Want To Celebrate Your Birthday?
Hmmm. There's definitely the meat dinner, goes without saying. When else will all the pictures be taken (thanks ya otousan and DSLR camera owners :P)? But for something different, here's our suggestion for a celebration - nighttime pool party! Alcohol, music, alcohol, finger food, beach balls, alcohol, floats! A night of hedonism!!! If no pool (especially since nearly all apartment/hotel pools close at 10pm) then how about a beach party!? Not a camping trip one mind you. Must have chalets/cabins, since alcohol will be involved hangover recovery period must be as comfortable as possible ya?

Heck, that was ten questions! Can we cross now?

OK! Now, this meme has pretty much gotten around and age is always a sensitive issue, so whoever who is facing blogger's block or something or wants to do this, feel free!

Spread Atop Our Desk

...Is our undying loyalty. Previously we'd put on the signet.

We can never understand how the body actually curls around the book that the head and tail appear on the same side.

Now we've gone retro and decided to pay back a visit to our cool mentat, Ammon. Just because Westwood decided to go in different directions for the Ordos Mentat each time (Edric O the thinking machine in Dune 2000, and Roma Atani in Emperor: Battle For Dune) didn't detract how we like the laidback Ammon.

Does anyone actually sit with an arm across their chest like that?

Oh yes. During our Win98 years we'd littered the desktop with shortcuts aside from the standard fare of My Computer, My Documents etc. Then when WinXP came about and cleaned the desktop of all icons and shortcuts save the Recycle Bin, so did we. Ahhh, a clean, empty desktop where everything necessary is pinned to the Start Menu.

So yes, the only icons on our desktop is...
My Bluetooth Places - we can't delete this somehow.
101 reasons to stay in TTDI text file - a project still in the works. Initially we stated that if we could list 101 reasons to stay in TTDI, NJAPF should shift to TTDI too. This, of course, is some 2 years back now.
Recycle Bin - which is nearly always showing an empty icon because we normally use the shortcut Shift-Del.

Clean and tidy hor our desk? This to prove to NJAPF whom tagged us that we be clean. Now, what goes around comes around. Show us your desktops, people. Press that Print Screen button (after pressing Start-D) now!

We may confiscate contraband. After that go spread the love.

Those SchoolMeme Days

...Of telling tales and biting nails are gone. Then again we never did either. But we've been given a meme to revisit Form 5 again as it is.

Favourite Subjects:
English because we didn't have to stress ourselves. Well, probably only over trying to work out the actual grammar of English we would have a bit of a problem because we never bothered much with figuring what's a continuous past tense, a verb, a noun and the likes. What we do remember is that we had four exercise books for English - Grammar, Comprehension, Vocabulary and Composition. Is this still the practise?

Oh, and Maths/Add Maths. It was more fun whiling our homework time doing Maths than it was doing other kinds of homework. Plus, since we'd already understood the concept of the buku sifir for exams, we used a scientific calculator for normal homework. Only problem would be that there might be some 50-100 Maths questions to do for homework each time, gah.

Favourite Teacher:
Erm, we don't remember much about our teachers...save our Add Maths teacher Mr Vijay (is that right now, 'Nic?). Asides from the disciplinary teacher he was the only other teacher to go about with a cane into class - and after any tests/exams, he'll give a single stroke to anyone who scored below 80, and two strokes for those who scored below 40. And he's cynical enough to know that a good number of us in class are already attending Add Maths tuition.

Worst Subjects:
History and Geography. Damn all the factual, rote memorization subjects. Everytime we opened our History textbook we would be in sleepyland some 10 minutes later. We've a terrible memory, period.

Sat Beside A Boy Or Girl?
Guy. Our head prefect.

Hold Any Positions In School?
Lesse. Can only remember being the secretary of the English Society. But more notorious for being the Chief Editor for the school mag of our year, and it tad to resemble a bit more of a class mag (with bits from other classes) than a school mag, if you take out all the other bits like class photos, clubs and their activities, and school events. Oh, how power goes to the head. :P

Co-ed Or All-Boys?
All. Boys.

Represent The School In Any Competition?
Nah. Kept pretty much a low profile.

Getting To School:
From the bus in the primary school years then to dad dropping us off in the morning and mum picking us up in the afternoon.

Still Keep In Touch With Schoolmates After All These Years?
Only for the trips and boardgaming sessions and the Chinese New Year meetups as it is.

Did Form 6?
Nope - went for A-Levels instead. Finally, to have things in English then!

Now, because the opportunity is just there, tag time:
Aik Yong - let's hear how yours differ from ours.
3-Seconder - because you're a meme magnet? :P
AlvinO - when you got time.
NJAPF - come on, update already. :P
FeR - yet another meme for you to KIV.

Donch Worry

Be happy. So 3-Seconder has commanded. :D

Seriously, we has mulled over it for days, gal, and we cannot think of any specific overly-joyous happy moments here. But then again we're really a simple person with few demands, lots of wants and probably not that much needs.

Although...reflecting back maybe our happiness tended to be rather materialistic. :S

When we finally bombed on our iPod. We're happy to latch ourselves on a new book. When we were very much surprised with a PS2 for a birthday present 3 years back from the guys. When we get to meet up with old friends for a vacation trip with not much planned save games, food and company. When you say nothing at all Oops Ronan Keating moment. When we hear a splendid performance. Or watching musicals/plays on our list. Dancing to BodyJam.

Maybe that's because we haven't started worrying about stuff that we ought to, like: Can we afford a car and/or house? Are we secure about our job? What kind of changes are coming? Well, one factor would be our changing jobs. Given in our previous job we come up with emo stuff instead. Nowadays we just blab in prose that's straight off the head - you won't find stuff like how Paul or NJAPF puts it.

Anyways...

Happiest moments...will go to our year in Glasgow/UK. The whole year. One year (and a bit) of pure freedom (oh well as far as freedom can go while we were still dependant on the parents), with cold clear air (and occasional showers and strong winds), when Virgin/HMV/Game had their full-refund policy, where we had our own rooms, shared with housemates we've known for ages, where a birthday party could mean plenty of batchmates showing up, where walking wasn't much of a problem (we would still complain about walking all the way to Sauchiehall Street tho').

You know it's bad when reminders brings out pangs of loss, especially our most recent reminder was during WeeP's wedding and senior-Hodge made this music video of areas around James Blyth Court and the Uni of Strathclyde again...

So whenever we needs a perk up, there's always little clips we'll try to remember. One is sitting in our room, Nissin instant noodles with crabsticks on our table, the laptop playing Azumanga Daioh...us just passing time away. In Borders, sipping a Strawberries and Cream Frappucino while reading some novel...just killing time (and finishing a book too). Making pizza (not the round 12" ones mind) for pot-luck birthdays. Not managing to ski but did get to snowboard in Glenshee.

But we thinks, if you can't think of a happy time listen to this and ponder. :D

Nah, shan't put lyrics this time.

But to pass the baton on, here's them we'd like to know of their happy moments (we can only hope that innocence prevails):
William, and we're wondering if it somehow becomes a food blog or not.
(B/W)ill, always good to hear from you.
Legolas, so we can see the R post (you managed Q post rather well!).
Sam, because you were bored. :D
QR, we wonder if it's the kind that'll have us shutting our eyes in embarassment.
There: that ought to be enough for it to spread.

5ive

Welcome to the fifth day of the week - Friday. Well, for most people it is. Calendars nowadays aren't standardized to show if the start of the week begins on a Sunday or a Monday, but taking that Sunday was deemed the seventh day and the day of rest, we treats it as such. Also if you say it in Chinese, Monday's called pai yat or xin jie yi, which to our banana mind means Day 1.

So now instead of the prosperous number of 8ight we're suppose to share about the reluctant number of 5ive. Here we go:

5 Things In Our Bag:
Nintendo DS

iXus
Spare memory cards
Memory card reader
WHS A6 notebook

5 Things In Our Wallet:

"Da Da Dadada Da Da Da Dadada Da"

Came across this from -C. Was fun racking our brains there because some lines were so recognizable and we were trying to place 'em.

Quiz time, and with an eclectic collection of music for us to sound from. So what we've done is told the iPod to 'Shuffle Songs', and we'll take the first 25 with lyrics and list the first line of the lyrics here.

First to name a song and artist gets credit for it. How many can you recognize?

1. "Gomen ne sunao janakute..." [Female]

2. "Tale as old as time..." [Male]

3. "'Mystery after gala night' it says 'Mystery of soprano's flight'..." [Male]

4. "Monday night, and I feel so low..." [Male]

5. "Chez moi les forets se balancent..." [Female]

6. "I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight..." [Male]

7. "Hizashi no aizu ni kakete kuru..." [Female]

8. "Epona Epona soba ni oide..." [Female]

9. "Why does it feel like night today? Something in here's not right today..." [Male]

10. "Mother mother tell your children, that their time has just begun..." [Male]

11. "When the night has come and the land is dark..." [Male]

12. "I can't get out of bed today..." [Female]

13. "People always talk about all the things they're all about..." [Female]

14. "There's maybe a way I can tell you 'cos with everyday things continue..." [Male]

15. "Kokoro ni hane wo motte tsutate mune no sasayaki..." [Female]

16. "I met her but I never thought she'd belonged to me..." [Male]

17. "Adeste Fideles laeti triumphantes..." [Males]

18. "I can be an asshole of the grandest kind..." [Female]

19a. "One night...and the world is your oyster..." [Male]

19b. "Shot like an arrow going through my heart..." [Female]

20a. "Little castles in the air..." [Female]

20b. "Are the stars out tonight? I don't know if it's cloudy or bright..." [Male]

21. "When it's over that's the time I fall in love again..." [Male]

22. "One more day before you go, we'll stay up late for one more show..." [Male]

23. "So this is who I am and this is all I know..." [Female]

24. "The trees are spinning oxygen, they're the rockets we should fear..." [Male]

25. "If there were no words, no way to speak, I would still hear you..." [Female]

BONUS: "I will dedicate and sacrifice my everything for just a second's worth of how my story's ending..."

For 19 and 20, there's options (will explain later). Also threw in a bonus just for kicks. And we realise that just by doing this, we've a bit of spring cleaning to do on our iPod, clearing off songs we won't ever listen to.

Have fun!

8ight

We think of it as something to post up. And something to pass on to others (to quote a doctor: Update, dammit!) to give them something to post up.

So anyways. The one where 8 bits are shared - but first, for the sake of them who would need some guidance...

Rules of the tag:

1. Link to your tagger and post these rules.

2. List eight (8) random facts about yourself.

3. Tag eight people at the end of your post and list their names (linking to them) [OPTIONAL].

4. Let them know they've been tagged by leaving a comment on their blogs [OPTIONAL].

Now that that's out of the way, let us just admit that probably it isn't all really randomly chosen facts.

1 - We're a purebred night owl - and so our parents decided to drug us.

It must have been in Form One that we started sleeping later and later (definitely the pre-op days). Happens that our sleeping time started pushing later and later, or that we started heading down to the living room in the dead of the night. We enjoyed the peacefulness and tranquility ourselves, but initially it led to mum awaking to find a light source from the gap under her bedroom door.

Rather frequent she had to barge out of her bedroom to question goings-ons downstairs to find us cozying up with a book and a cuppa Milo or something (caffeine didn't have it's appeal as much as condensed milk then), totally innocent, we tell you (angel). She'd then coerce us to go to sleep with threats.

In retrospect, the parents did bed down rather early last time. 10.30pm and they were bunking down already, dead to the world. We couldn't have been up past 1am in those days. Not like these days.

Anyways the parents were initially concerned with our then 'late nights' (not that we knew), and dad testing the waters by asking us if we were being bullied in school or such. We were rather surprised at this bit of questioning and of course answered in the negative (because it was true - all our years in what we think of as a gangster's school and we never run into any of them).

So the parents had us see a doc in HKL. All we remember is that we were going to see a doctor because we were sleeping later than expected, and that we had a short interview with this Indian houseman before seeing the actual doctor. We don't even remember the bit about meeting the doctor though, only the interview with the houseman. Whether we were consulting a psychologist or whatever, no idea.

And so we were given some a strip of tablets to take at night (no, no idea what they were, they looked about the size of them generic BCo tabs, definitely smaller than lorazepam tabs). We never finished those tablets nor did we ever had a follow up session. What was more likely was that we ended up training the parents to accept our late nights instead.

2 - Compliments: we're bad at accepting them, and we're lousy at giving them.

Honestly, whenever we're paid a compliment we get all aflustered and try to brush it off with a, "No-lah! Where got?" It's somewhat considered an offense to do so in the Western cultures we guess but we'd have done the same rather than accept it graciously. Embarrasseses us somewhat, getting compliments.

In the same vein we find it hard to pay a honest compliment unless:
i) It is something very, very good; or
ii) We do it in a very over-the-top manner. This is more common. But doing it in an over-the-top manner doesn't mean that we're bullshitting - we mean it. We just can't say it properly, it won't come out somehow. Else we wouldn't even compliment.

3 - We do one of three displacement activities while dining alone.

Read something, as this has been something we've done since young. We will be forced into a bookstore to get some form of reading material if we ever do meals without a book and have nothing else to do (while we eat).

Watch something on telly, like an episode of Sailormoon.

Play something, Sudoku being the best example because we eat with our left hand and write with our right. Or else we'll take a bite, then pummel on the joypad while we masticate the food into tiny tiny bits.

Come to think of it, it's more like eating is the secondary activity...but we need the displacement activity or go crazy.

4 - We once BodyJammed in work attire.

This was before we were thick-skinned enough to just saunter into class no matter how late we were. As it happens, we were just in the nick of time for Riyo's Jam class so we just changed into gym shoes and did the entire class in a black shirt and work pants. Then changed into gym clothes after showering to head home.

We're actually tempted to do so again actually, if we didn't sweat so heavily nowadays.

5 - How we became us.

We were corrupted by l'agneau orange during our housemanship years. We didn't understand why this woman would use 'we' instead of 'I' when she talks but two months in the same department and we soon became us. Maybe it was being in the presence of all those cytotoxics. This is the real reason we end up referring to ourselves in the collective rather than the individual (although not always).

6 - We lazed on railings back in college.

This was a defining feature of ours when we were in college. Our classroom was on the second to third floor depending on the semester, and we will be sitting on the railing facing inwards whenever we're not in class. And no one tried to kill us, nor forbid us from doing so.

7 - We used to go into Silent Mode.

Ah. Primary school. There was a time when we were upset with a couple of close friends, that we ended up not speaking to them, even though we still hung out together. We just wrote to them on scraps of paper instead.

Not like we've given up the habit, we noticed. Only, instead of Silent Mode, we went Off-The-Network and broke off communications with everyone except those that we had to (like our parents, boss, colleagues and our customers). Yeah, we didn't answer calls and such.

8 - We can't talk straight sometimes.

And bullshit a fair bit. Call it being somewhat of a compulsive liar. Like, when asked what does 'stiff upper lip' mean and we spun a yarn about it being a disease that attacks the generally well-to-do in the British society. And when another friend texted us to find out how we were doing, we told her that we weren't working and living from the earnings of our blog (which isn't earning anything yet btw haha). Or about when we changed jobs. But thankfully we're not viewed negatively because of that, because the truth does out and set you free.

Okay!!! That piece of long-windedness is done! Now to spread the word to others...what was the saying again? "Let's care, let's share?" Or was it, "Misery loves company?" However you like it lah. Here we go:

C'est La Vie. Because some family secrets aren't meant to be shared.
F e R ' s. Because you don't need a camera to do this meme. :)
Not Just A Pretty Face. Because we don't hear enough from you.
3-Second Memory. Because you need something forget about the flu.
Chewing My Legs Off. Because you came back alive, so here's some inspiration.
Let Sleeping Tapirs Lie. Because we don't want you to stop after two posts.
Heng's Gaming Report. Because since changing sites there hasn't been much.
Fu Onn. Because we'd like to read something other than football.

Yeah, to requote again (for some people): Update, dammit! :D
